Fitting room closed? These 5 tips will help you grab the right size

“Our fitting rooms are currently closed due to Covid-19.”

I’m sure you’ve seen signs with this message, or heard the phrase from a sales associate in the past few months. You think, ‘Sure, I’ll just grab my usual size and try it on at home,’ only to discover that the piece doesn’t fit you right, and you have to return to the store to attempt to find the right size. I’ve heard of people going back and forth 3 times until they found the right fit, how frustrating is that?!

Not being able to try on clothes before you shop is a huge inconvenience, but it doesn’t have to take you a ton of time to find the best possible fit. In this video you’ll learn 5 shopping hacks to help you find the best possible fit when you can’t try on clothes.

The key thing to know when you can’t try on clothes

Knowing your own body’s measurements can help you grab the correct size more often than you think. Contrary to relative sizing (where ‘small’ is only small in comparison to something larger), your measurements allow you to find a more accurate fit. In fact, I recommend you measure yourself often and keep those measurements handy, so you can use them to compare your own measurements to the clothing you find.

It’s also helpful to bring your own tape measure when shopping, something flexible that you can bend around garments. Bonus points if it’s the same one you used to measure yourself. If you’re not sure which measurements to take, or how to take them, check out this post next.

Do you have any other tips for finding the right fit without trying clothes on? I have a feeling all moms out there are gonna have a few more, I can’t imagine asking kids to try on many things before buying! If you have any, drop them in a comment below!
